"You Rock"

Here's a most inspiring post from uber-blogger Seth Godin. It's similar to the change-by-making-a-series-of-tiny-changes approach of kaizen posted about here earlier.

Godin's idea is to be amazingly bold and excellent for a mere five minutes a day. To do that much can rock the world.

I agree with him on all except his last line. See what you think and let us know.

Note: I've been absent from posting for a couple of weeks. Now getting back in the saddle. I took a week of stay-cation: time off at home reading and puttering. Also took a wonderful drawing class. And of course I worked like a maniac in advance and immediately after in order to have time to do this. Thus the alarming absence of my posts... Thanks for noticing.

Note 2: I just noticed that I posted about kaizen this past January and three years ago and thought the concept was new to me both times. Well, I suppose that gives me double the pleasure of discovery.

Finally, welcome to Calin as a regular subscriber here.

Boldly Napping

Recently I spent a day working on my sofa--and napping on my sofa--from roughly 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Not my usual workday but I got a fair amount done. And caught up on my sleep. (I think.) And I didn't let my laptop crash to the floor and die.

Variations like that in my self-imposed schedule make me a little nervous. As if I'm daringly playing hooky.

Isn't that ridiculous? Or are you familiar with this sensation?

Making Changes and Experimenting

This blog is spiffing up a bit. As with human make-overs, the change is not happening in an instant. Instead, with much help, I'm sorta playing with it. Trying this and that, learning a tiny bit about the inner workings. I never thought I'd be interested in such a thing, but it keeps calling me back.

So, expect a few days of shifting elements and pictures and such. And count on the same jolly philosophy of creative freedom and daily courage.

Seize the Scissors, Seize the Day

We don't have to stick with whatever comes out of a package. Often, we can change it. I love using things in ways they weren't intended, or altering them to make them work for my circumstances.

Case in point:

Husband Bob didn't like the blue sheets because they "didn't breathe." I didn't like the black ones because they were itchy. Here you see the compromise: slicing them down the middle. Now we have two sets of sheets that we both like.

Boldness Highlights of the Week

Bold this week:

...our new Justice Sotomayor. It takes courage to be the first of any group to climb into a highly visible position.

...the rescue of the two reporters from North Korea, not with force but with strategy and charm.

...Paul McCartney riding city buses (from "Paul McCartney Keeps It Real", The Week magazine)

My own boldest move this week was pretty small: I rewrote my intro copy for my blog in a more revealing and pointed way. (soon to come)

What was your own boldest move in the last seven days? What's it going to be for the coming week?
