Post-Surge

Day 12, and I'm still lying around. Surgery went fine. I'm still tired in mind and body. Sleeping and watching post-Katrina on TV. Feeling luxurious in my comfortable convalescence as I see again and again the wreckage of lives on the Gulf Coast. I'm sad especially for New Orleans. The novel I've recently finished, COBALT BLUE, is set there for the last third of the story. The spirit of New Orleans is immortal; I can't believe otherwise.

So glad to hear your recovery is going well.

It's terribly sad about New Orleans. Anne Rice wrote a beautiful piece in the New York Times that speaks to the tenacity of the grand old dame's spirit.

Very good to have you back, and to hear that you are recovering well. Be sure to pamper yourself; this is a rare time for you.

Good grief, the utter horror of what is happening down there. Right now it is incomprehensible. Yet, in the coming days and weeks we shall have to face it. Unless, of course, we unplug the TV and radio and stop delivery of the newspaper.
