How To Be Bold Now

1. Ride out the stock market situation. Hold on to any investments you have. Trust that the value will come back. It's the gutsy and right thing to do for ourselves and each other.

2. Continue to focus on your work, the substance of it, what you're here on earth to accomplish.

3. Enjoy the feeling of solidarity: for once, we're all in this mess together. And those of us who are artists have some familiarity with money worries; this time the English majors who decided to go to law school instead of being novelists are worrying with us.

4. Spend some time outdoors in the enlivening fall weather.

5. Indulge in some small luxury that makes you feel rich. (I'm personally keeping the Hershey's organization alive.)

6. Give some time or money to the needy. (See The Healing Power of Doing Good by Allan Luks with Peggy Payne.)

7. Campaign. (For Obama.)

8. Pray. Seriously. It helps.

Every single thing on that list is excellent. I'll think I'll start at the bottom and work my way up - I'll get to the chocolate faster. Thanks for this timely and encouraging post.

Good strategy, Mamie. I don't know why I didn't put the chocolate first.

Maybe the financial world will have a calming and restorative weekend. And then begin again fresh on Monday.

Peggy,

Great list. I think I did six out of the eight suggestions, today, so I guess I'm being pretty bold!

Hugs,
Deb

Peggy, wonderful advice. I'm doing most everything but the chocolate. For me, it's potato chips. :)

Thanks, Janet, Debbie and Billie. I'd say six out of eight is amazing!

And on the chocolate/chips matter: I don't think it's an either/or thing.

And I have to say, following my own advice, I found yesterday that praying was as good as chocolate. There's an article on the subject in the new Yoga Journal that's really inspiring.

Janet, I'm fascinated by the photo of you and your violin behind the tree. Say more about this musical wellness, if you will. I see why you sign off with "harmony."
