Writing Books, Seeking God, Teaching Writing, and Coping with OCD
I’m a writer who dodged being a minister; I saw that my dharma, my calling, was instead to write about body and spirit, to explore in fiction my metaphysical questions. I’ve spent the past 35+ years as a freelancer, with 2 novels, 2 nonfiction books, magazine and newspaper articles from 25+ countries, a few seasons as a TV reporter, copy for ad agencies, a winter in India, and my manuscript and career consulting services for writers.
It’s not because I’m naturally lion-hearted that I’ve chosen the topic of bold living and bold writing. It’s because I aspire to living and writing with courage. I wrestle with these matters; I even have a touch of an anxiety disorder, specifically obsessive-compulsive disorder. You probably know the saying: we teach what we need to learn.
I post here about daily fears and triumphs, about writing and, if I ever get my courage up, about mysticism, the ultimate brazen act: direct experience of God. I hope you’ll leap into the wide-ranging conversation here and come back often. I hope you’ll find the talk here encouraging for your own adventures.

It's funny -- on another forum I post on regularly, we were trying to think of three single words that we could use to describe 2008 for us. So many of us came up with two positive words and one word that was either negative or at least that implied some sort of chaos, that we all finally re-realized that without pain there is no growth!
So I suppose I might add to the list: May your pain and troubles never be greater than you can deal with at any given time!

That's either a satisfying year. Or a valuable reframing of a difficult one. Sounds as if it has ended in a good place, K.B. .
All at once. :) A lot of my life has been out of my control and in the hands of others for the entire year. In a way it still is. That's very aggravating and frustrating for someone like me, who likes to have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, and possibly D, E, and F. And maybe G. If I need it, H is a possibility too.
So my year has been a lot of learning to let life take its own time, of reacting rather than leading or prodding or steering.
And I've traveled the world, learned a lot of new people, and I'm still learning.
Can't think of a better place to be!
Not long ago, I have thought about something like that, but I did not realize you are so deep, it seems that I need to continuously strengthen the learning!
To the person from the Chinese website: welcome. Could you write your name in the English alphabet? Or your online name?
To K.B.: When I find my fate too much in the hands of others, I tend to change my hair color. Once in particular, when I wanted to hurry the Indian government along in giving me a visa.
