My favorite leading thought for this last year and I believe the one ahead was one that one of the advisors on the Flat Belly Diet forums gave, more or less by accident, and that a bunch of us have taken up as our motto: Just Keep Going.
When she "said" it in answer to someone else asking about why she wasn't losing weight as fast as some others, it hit me like a ton of bricks.
If you don't keep going, you will never get to where you are trying to go, no matter what you do. If you stop, you don't move. You have to keep going, no matter what. If you stop, you simply will not get anywhere but where you are. You have to keep going.
Pretty self-evident, I know, but for some reason it just hit me as so amazing a thought, something that was so obvious that I never saw it staring me in the face, that I've taken it up as my war cry.
Just. Keep. Going.
I'm keeping going. I find this useful for when I don't know which of the twenty things on my desk to take on first. The trick is not to pause and think about it. They all have to be done anyway. So I just don't stop and ponder. Keeping going really moves things along quickly too.
One of my favorite -- possibly the favorite -- quotes I've ever heard on the topic of courage is the one I use in my blog header. "It's not courage unless you're terrified."
Maybe it's my favorite because I know the person who said it, but she said a lot of notable things that I didn't feel the need to immortalize. No I think it speaks to the true nature of courage, which somebody famous once said wasn't the absence of fear, but the overcoming of it. (I don't remember the exact quote or even who said it anymore. Sounds like something Eisenhower might have said though.)
Donna may have oversimplified the concept in her words, but I really think she was onto something. It's easy to "be brave" among friends who think, speak, act like you do. There is after all safety in numbers. But to stand alone and defy the thunderous mob is something else entirely.
