I love that quote; never heard of him or of that kind of music, but I'll be looking it up next!
Aleatoric music - How interesting that is! It reminds me of the time I saw Bobby McFerrin at NCSU in concert and he used the audience to make sounds. THAT was certainly left to chance!
I think Cage and McFerrin must be cousins. I'd never heard the term aleatoric, though. Doesn't seem to match its meaning.
